The Seed Oil Free Certification Process
The certification process is designed to be seamless and straightforward. In just a few simple steps, you can move from eligibility check to full certification—without compromising your time or privacy. Our team is here to guide you through the entire journey, from confidential testing to proudly displaying the Seed Oil Free Certified seal.
The Process
Seed Oil Free Certification is the highest standard for seed oil-free consumer packaged goods and restaurants. The certification process takes less than a month from start to finish. To qualify for the trademarked Seed Oil Free Certified seal, foods must not contain any seed oils, backed by lab testing.

The First Steps for Seed Oil Free Certification
Before applying, use the eligibility check tool to quickly see if your products qualify. Food products containing seed oils like soybean, corn, or canola aren’t eligible for certification.
For a complete list of disallowed ingredients, approved oils and fats, and certification requirements, review the Seed Oil Free Standards.
If you need help reformulating products that aren’t eligible, you can schedule a discovery meeting with our team.
Mutual Nondisclosure Agreement (MNDA) & Web Application
After confirming your eligibility, you’ll receive an MNDA that protects sensitive details about your company, including:
- Your annual revenue
- Ingredient suppliers
- Recipe cards
- Ingredient purity testing results
Following the MNDA, we’ll provide you with a web-based application link where you’ll provide full product details
Licensing Agreement & Payment
After reviewing your application, we’ll confirm your certification pricing, which includes the annual licensing fee and any per-ingredient testing fees.
The licensing agreement will include the following exhibits:
- A list of your eligible products
- Your pricing details based on annual revenue and testing fees
- The Seed Oil Free Standards
Once you sign the agreement, the licensing deposit and testing fees will be debited and testing will begin.
Products without added oil or refined fat are immediately eligible for certification without initial testing but, like all certified products, are subject to surveillance testing during the licensing period, which is conducted at no additional cost.
Testing Phase & Refund Policy
After payment, you’ll receive a Sample Kit with instructions for submitting your oil or refined fat samples to our independent, ISO-accredited lab for purity testing.Purity testing typically takes about 2 weeks, excluding shipping time. Once complete, you’ll get a detailed report analyzing each tested ingredient.
If all ingredients meet the purity standards, your products will be officially Seed Oil Free Certified.
If any ingredients are found to be adulterated, impure, or mislabeled, those products won’t qualify for certification. However, we offer remediation assistance at no additional cost to help you achieve certification.
Alternatively, you can request a refund of your licensing deposit within 2 weeks of the ineligibility notice, should you choose not to pursue remediation. Test results will remain confidential. Please note that testing fees are non-refundable.
Implementation & Announcement
“Implementation” begins when your company adds the Seed Oil Free Certified seal to your product packaging or menus.
We provide a grace period, meaning the countdown for licensing renewal starts when the seal is implemented, not at certification. This gives you extra time to update packaging or menus and coordinate your print schedule.
Before adding the seal to packaging or menus, you’re free to announce your Seed Oil Free Certification and use the trademarked seal on your website or marketing materials.
Our team is ready to help with positioning, messaging, media strategy, and more when you’re ready to share your Seed Oil Free story with the world.
